Olympic Articles

We chose an article from the site 'Kiwikidsnews' and had a go at re-writing an Olympic-themed article of our choice in our own words...

Adam's wins Olympic SILVER

Valerie Adams has won in London Olympics for 2012 in Shot Put.  The kiwi's won New Zealand's 8th medal of these events and the first silver medal but the 27 year old could not even get closer to the eventual champion Nadzeya Ostapchuk from Balarus.

Bolt wins 5th Olympic medal

                           

Usain Bolt has made history being the first man to win the 100m and 200m sprint twice in a row.  Bolt struck again beating his buddy in 19.32 seconds.
Bolt has five gold medals and could get another gold medal to his collection in another relay.

Lisa Carrington wins kayaking GOLD


Lisa Carrington has just won gold in the K1 200m kayaking.  The 23 year old Lisa raced against a heavy wind. She started it really slowly but came quickly home on the final 100m.

New Zealand cyclists win bronze

The New Zealand cycling team won bronze in a bronze medal ride-off .  Earler on they had been beaten by Australia so they had the ride-off against Russia.
They were behind Russia in the race but won the race in the end. They clocked 3m 55.952s, more than 2s quicker than Russia.
The team has four riders called Jesse Sergent, Aaron Gate, Marc Ryan and Sam Bewley.
 

Runner finishes relay with broken leg


USA Manteo Mitchell ran the last 200 metres of the opening of the Olympic 4x400 metre relay heats with a broken leg.
Mitchell said after the speed race, he had about a 1/4 around the circle when his foot felt like his feet is popping in the right leg.  He complete the race in 46.1 seconds and helped the USA to tie for the first with the Bahamas in 59.87 seconds.

Van Velthooven wins BRONZE for New


Van Velthooven wins BRONZE for New Zealand


                                          

Simon Van Velthooven a New Zealand sprint cyclist won bronze after a five minute delay because of a tight finish.  He said that "It's the nation's medal".
