Never Ending Story: Spooky Night

Evangeline has started a story for us.  Lets help her finish it by adding our own ideas to it...

One scary spooky night an old whitch had dark red and grey boofy hair.  Her name was Mrs Etuale. She lived in a spooky school called Somerset School.
Every day  she would always try to cut her hair with a spooky sharp knife. The knife was called Whaea Lisa. One night the witch Mrs Etuale went to a barber. That barbers would never close.
That old shopkeepers name was Mr Howard. The witch went that night to the barber. She told Mr Howard if he can cut the witches hair bold. The which said to the shopkeeper if she can look in the mirror.  She scremed as LOUD as she can.  She blow the roofs off.

Jimmy's Big Toe

Room 9 are currently participating in the Bikenz programme 'Bikewise'.  We were given a passport each and the following is a recount of one of the stories in our passports...

One day Jimmy was riding a bike down his driveway.  The seat was too high for Jimmy and he scraped his toe.  It was really gross and it hurt. He ended up missing swimming for two weeks.  That's why he remembered every time he rode his bike, that he had to wear his shoes.

He would always put his seat where it was meant to be. When he wore trousers he tucked them into his socks so it wouldn't get caught up with the chain.

Kahikatea Fun Day

Well what to begin with because this day was so fun, sad, interesting, stupid
and most things inbetween. It started out with a nice, calm movie.
Mr Howard so happend to have a movie because constible emily forgot
to bring a movie. the film we watched was Diary of a WIMPY kid and it
seemed to put the main charicters Greg and Rowley in constant dander
and bad things were happening all around. I hated how Rowley was all ways
in trouble, like when he got his arm broken or when he had to say sorry to
the kindergartiners for something that Greg did but over all it was a good
film and i wish we saw the whole film. We had to go to Indoor Action
sports by bus and I had a wonderful conversation with Kini and Nahum
NONE OF YOUR BUISNESS WHAT WE WERE TAIKING ABOUT,
when we were waiking into Indoor Action sports arena I felt like I was
going to be EXECUTED and I got relly sceared when the guy who was
telling us what to do only had one arm like Freddy cruger befour he was a
horrer movie charecter.I was looking ford to doge ball at the end of all the
other games. What I keeped on saying was,STOP TOKOTAI DON'T LET
HIM GET ANOTHER GOAL.When we finaly played doge ball and I had
my little plan ready, the only problem was while I was thinking I got hit
in my upper leg. THE END.

Build Your WildSelf

We had fun creating images of ourselves as magical mythical creatures.

http://www.buildyourwildself.com/

We then wrote descriptions of those creatures using similes...

Scribbler

We used 'Scribbler' to draw pictures and then we wrote stories about our picture.

In the holidays I went to the beach.  I saw a butterfly and some birds.  The waves went up and down.  I went for a swim.  The water    was   really   cold.   When  I  wanted  to  get  out  I   got  out.  I  lade  on  my  towel  and dried  off  the  sun  was  blazing  hot.  Then got dressed and went home.  On  the  way  I  got  an  ice  cream  when  I  was  in  the  dairy  I  bumped  in  to  Faaoso  so  we  both  got  the same  ice  creams.  We  got   goody  goody gum drop. And then our mums picked us up and taken as home.

Once upon a time there was a baby rabbit who was looking for a carrot but all the carrots were gone so the baby rabbit searched around for carrots and 2 hours later the baby rabbit gave up until the baby rabbit saw something green and orange so the baby rabbit walked up to it and the baby rabbit  said ``a carrot``.

Olympics

It must be really exciting for the sailors who just won our 100th medal. We think it's cool that NZ Olympians did better than we thought they would do. How amazing to achieve the same amount of medals as our 'greatest ever haul... in South Korea'. Even though we are a small country we showed the world that we can achieve!
YAY for New Zealand!!

BeFunky

We had fun exploring the site 'BeFunky'. Here are a few examples of our work...

Wednesday, 25 July 2012

Hey there Ruma Iwa,
So I thought I'd post a pic on our blog and get you to  use the 'See-Think-Wonder' format to write about this picture and post a comment.  Have a go...
I see a body picking up a head in the sand.
I think it looks like the boy's head has fallen off.
I wonder what really happened.
Ms Etuale
I see a boy touching a kids head.
I think the boy with his bum poking out, is farting.
I wonder why did they do this.
Falefehi
I see a boys head.  His face is cut.
I think it's fake.
I wonder if they took a picture of a boy's head and stuck it in the sand.

Maths_Rich Task

Hey there Ruma Iwa,
So I know we've just started looking at Rich Tasks in maths so I thought I'd post our first one online.
Have a go. Draw it up on a piece of paper and then post your answer.

See-Think-Wonder_Olympic Symbols

As part of our Inquiry Unit 'Go for Gold' we had a wee look at the 3 main Olympic Symbols and completed a 'See Think Wonder' graphic organiser.

Silly Olympics - The Medallists

We had an Awesome Rev Up activity for our inquiry study ‘Go For Gold’.
The team was buzzing about the Silly Olympics.  Despite the cold and getting completely drenched, the kids were laughing, cheering each other on, and going for gold.  Congratulations to all our ‘Countries’ – including our medallists.
Go Kahikatea!

Silly Olympics - Weet-Bix Challenge

The weet-bix was dry in our mouths.  It was really hard to eat them when it was dry.  The challenge was: be the first team to eat a whole box of weet-bix.  Some people were shoving weet-bix in their pockets and down the drain.  We looked like piglets.

Silly Olympics - Caterpillar Crawl

It was not fun at all when we got squished!  It was hard rolling together at the same time.  We had to get up and run to the other side of the caterpillar but everyone just got squashed – from each other and the person on top.

Silly Olympics - Dress Up Race

It was hard to put the clothes on.  We had to put them on before we ran.  It was funny watching all the kids running down the field in old people’s clothing.  The boys said it was embarrassing when they put old ladies clothes on.

Silly Olympics - Drag Race

It was really hard to hold on to the tarp.  The people on the tarp felt really heavy to drag.  It was rough and bumpy being dragged along the ground on the tarp.  Katherine’s team’s tarp was hard to pull because it was massive.  Mr Howard helped them out and Katherine flew down the field.  It looked fun and we were jealous!

Silly Olympics - Stretcher Race

Some people were too heavy to hold and run with.  The people being carried kept falling off.  It was very bumpy being carried.  It felt safe being carried but not very steady.  Our hands felt slippery when we carried them.  Some of us felt like our hands were dying.

Silly Olympics - Kahikatea Drenched

Kahikatea drenched after the Cargo Net Crawl and Obstacle Course races.

Silly Olympics - Obstacle Course Water Run

We fell over, dropped our containers full of water & got really drenched.  It was really hard to keep our balance and not tip water on ourselves.  Going through the tyres was the hardest part of the course.

Silly Olympics - Cargo Net Crawl

We got really stuck.  It was hard to go through when Mr Howard was pelting us with water.
We got to squirt Mr Howard when we were finished the Cargo Net race.

Marae Visit

At the marae it was cool and Rooms 3, 7 & 8 went with us.
We walked to the Marae and when we got there, the two girls did the karanga for us. Then we walked with them onto the Marae.
Before we walked into the Whare Nui, we had to take our shoes off. We were sitting down inside the Whare Nui and the men did a whaikorero. We sung waiata. After the speeches we had to get into a long line and do a hongi with the Marae people.
We did lots of cool activities like Mihi, ta moko, weaving and string games.
We had lots of fun. It was Awesome!
(Jacinta)

Lennon & Maisy Stella - Awesome Duet!

Awesome! I wish I can do that performance. If it was me and Shakana, I would put it on my facebook. (Evangeline)

I think that was an amazing performance from those two girls. Mean tapping and singing. It looked like they were in a real studio. (Brieanna)

Wow! That was amazing! I wish I was like that because I could tap all day long. (Ariana)

WHOA! That was an awesome performance. They had good tapping with the butter container, and a nice voice, and not flat. That was amazing! They sang like a superstar! (Shakana)

WOW! I'm amzed at the singing and tapping! (Maya)

I thought the video was funny and it was cool (Kingi)

It was just amazing! It had nothing wrong with it. The beat was kept fast and they were both in time. But why did they do this?... (Tama)

The girls are singing. We like the tapping best! (Daniel & Jade)

Marae Visit

As part of our focus on culture, we completed a 'See/ Think/ Wonder' graphic organizer around a picture of a marae...

Culture Brainstorm

This term our inquiry focus has been on 'Te Marae' and culture. Below is our brainstorm about culture. We looked at a few dictionaries to find what 'culture' means and came up with some ideas of our own.
